Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I laughed through most of the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This is a great movie but the critics don't seem to like it. The reviewers may be trying to compare the movie to the old TV show. I just don't know. There is no reason this movie isnt' getting better ratings. I loved the book and felt this new movie is true to the vision of that book. I think Douglas would have LOVED the new movie. Course, I really don't have any idea what Douglas Adams might have had strong feelings about, but for me.....I LOVED this movie!

HBO and Showtime Shows

I was thinking about all the terrific HBO/Showtime shows , trying to remember what I used to watch on 'regular' TV and pondering on 'how things were at one time. ' I miss Carnivale, Huff, SFU and the Sopranos. There is impermanence in viewing fare today and the seasons just fly by. Most of the time is spent watching reruns of the last season or waiting for the new season to start.

SFU is done after this next season which airs in June. It is sad but I hope it means that Alan Ball will be creating many new and even more wonderful projects. Carnivale's next season is a maybe. I don't know about the Sopranos or Huff. AND, what about that terrific show Dead Like Me. Is that coming back or gone forever?

I remember when it used to take a couple of years for people to find shows and another couple of years for the shows to gain popularity. Roseanne had been on three years before I ever saw one episode.

Oh well, we live in a time of instant everything and a great show has to be 'GREAT' in a sound-bite or it's history.

Intelligence

Some days I convince myself I am quite intelligent. Today wasn't one of those days, but I digress. When I feel 'smart' the first place I like to go is The Edge. Once I read a couple of articles at this site, I am humbled and realize I'm a lot less smart than I might have thought.

There is also an Edge Magazine but that's VERY different information. It's a Texas Rock and Roll magazine and speaking of rock and roll, I watched a documentary last night on The Ramones'. It was very interesting and a little scary to have lived through an era and be completely ignorant of it. I have heard of the group in the last ten years but never before that and I've always thought of myself as a music lover. Oh well, from intelligent to ignorant in two paragraphs...sigh : )

Choices, Priorities and Picking Your Battles

I read a blog today (K-57) that made me think about the things in our lives that we see and notice compared to those things we actively take part in. It's an interesting introspective and it made me scratch my head and wonder, "Why do we get involved some times and not others?"

Our choices are affected by our priorites and our perceptions. A fender bender that could possibly consume a good part of our afternoon is harder to get involved in than a situation where we might be able to save someone's life. Assuming that the value of a human life is one of our priorities.

We 'pick our battles' in life because we can't 'do all' and 'be all.' We each have a journey to make and the events that are part of our journey will be what we are involved in and everything else will fall into someone else's realm of experience.

Acceptance is the hardest thing in life and the easiest.

Another Day, Another Self Help Book

My book du jour is
"Wisdom of the Ages: Sixty days to enlightenment"
by Wayne Dyer. I read a lot of his stuff in the seventies but now I'm finding out that he was doing as much drinking at that time as I was, so not sure what that means. He quotes all the best philosophers and this is always good information. The central theme is always, don't panic. See, Douglas Adams did have all the answers!

I 'heart' Everything Today

I guess there's no point in being bi-polar if you can't enjoy the manic days...lol. I bought a great book that I'm feeling so inspired by. It's The Right Questions" written by Debbie Ford. It brings together a lot of the philosophies that I 'heart' Huckabees so skillfully made fun of (saw that Monday night, loved it!)

I started walking again at my husband's suggestion. He told me my heart beat sounded funny the other night. I miss walking when I stop but my laziness gets the best of me sometimes.

So, here I am sharing my good feelings with the rest of the world.

Life, the Universe and Everything!

42!!

I'm so happy they are doing a remake of the movie "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." I was at Barnes and Nobles yesterday and there are re-releases of all of Douglas Adams books. How exciting is that! I love reading Adams and will always owe my husband a debt of gratitude for turning me onto him. I haven't had the same success getting into Dr Who, but I've tried and I do enjoy some of the episodes with Tom Baker.

So, "Goodbye and thanks for the fish."

History Lesson

I was in line the other day at Epcot. The lady behind me was trying to explain to her daughter who Kirk Douglas was. She said, "You know Catherine Zeta-Jones...Well, she's married to Kirk Douglas' son."

You gotta laugh if you think about it. Hard to imagine someone as 'known' world wide as Kirk Douglas needing to be explained. Times change and people change and new people bring new idols and icons.

I guess that's why my mom looked so hurt that time I asked her who Rudoph Valentino was.
